Sweet Baby Boy Dreams…

Oh my goodness, this precious baby boy was a dream! We took a little while to settle him at the beginning (he arrived ready to party ;)) but after a full feed he drifted into a big sleep. I love that mom chose these fresh greens and neutrals. As our days get greener and the blossoms of Spring continue to bloom it’s nice to incorporate this palette and I think it was perfect for his skin tone.

The image right at the end is of Grandpa & mom’s hands holding baby. I think it is so special when grandparents come to our sessions. Grandpa didn’t want to be in a photo straight on but I convinced him to do just this one. I love that hands carry so much wisdom and strength and the dichotomy between an older generation and fresh new birth is so beautiful. This baby is so very loved.

Victoria Baby Photographer -Precious Baby Girl

This little one was so very calm for us throughout her session, very happy to snuggle up and and loved being wrapped. I love how she awoke on our last set up, bright eyed for her last few photos.

Oh my goodness, to have a head of hair like this!! She was so precious, and had the most gorgeous long eyelashes and sweet little cheeks 🙂

Sometimes parents come in with a very definite idea of the colours they would like and this family was no exception. These pretty pastels were perfect for her!

A Gorgeous Baby Girl – Her Newborn Photography Session Share

I am sharing this gorgeous baby girl’s newborn session today! What a sweetie she was, all of the pretty blush pinks, creams & hint of grey a girl could want!

Mom arrived with baby for the first part of the session and then we called Dad and big brother back for the final 30minutes at the end of the session for some family photos as well as some sibling photos. I find that having baby nice a settled in for the first part of the shoot works well in order to get our sleepy posing complete. This is usually a relaxing experience for mom to just sit and enjoy the session (and maybe even put her feet up to read a magazine!). I often suggest that Dad take any siblings off to the park up the street or out for a snack so they are fresh when they arrive at the studio. This becomes a fun and engaging experience for big brother to walk into and if baby awakes at this point, it really doesn’t matter!!

Twin Girls!! Newborn Session, Victoria BC

I was so excited when this mama contacted me to book photos for her twins!! Booking in advance is especially important with multiples and these little ones tend to arrive a little earlier oftentimes. A few weeks later they arrived and came to visit me in the studio. Mom is a beautiful sewer of the most gorgeous quilts (go have a look at her work), so I was really excited when she brought along the beautiful quilts she had made for her girls. Each of them works of art, I love working special items like these into the session. They might not be the main focus of the shot but having something that is handmade or special to your little ones is a great way to add a little colour in and be able to look back and remember those special touches.

They did so well for us and were amazing to work with. I love how these girls just cozied up to one another and were happiest while snuggling together in our props. There really is such a special bond shared between twins!!

Beautiful Baby Boy Sneak Peek

I just wanted to share a little peek into this beautiful baby boy’s newborn photo session. I love when a client asks me for a color that I don’t often use, this time it was yellow. We were able to find a few little accessories and mix the color in a little with white and greys. Grandma came along to his session and her sari scarf was so perfect for the big bowl basket set-up that we were able to use (in the last photo here). This sweet baby boy was so good and slept all the way until the very last set up where we were able to capture his bright eyes!! It’s so much fun to get creative and go in a different direction with colors in a newborn session.

Newborn Baby Photos – Asleep or Awake!

As a newborn photographer here in Victoria, I often get asked how do I keep baby asleep while changing positions, props and hand/feet placement. There are definitely a few tricks. If parents have listened well to the prep instructions to keep baby awake for a couple of hours before heading into their session, then are given a full feed before heading over, we are already in good stead for a sleepy session. The addition of a little warmth, some white noise & a comfy wrap often help baby settle and the session begins!

I usually start with a few props where baby is wrapped, adjusting his little hands and placement in each set-up. When these are finished, I move onto the beanbag set-ups where we try to get an unwrapped baby photo before adding on some sweet wraps and hats.

Newborn Baby Photos - Asleep or Awake 1

I’ve definitely had my fair share of babies that are wide awake for part of their session though. What happens if they don’t want to sleep anymore?… just go with it!! How adorable is a newborn baby that is looking straight at you, so deeply??!! I think it’s fantastic to get the variety of awake and asleep, so if baby opens his/her eyes and it’s the end of the session, we honestly just go with it! We open up the wrap a little, often get the cutest yawns, a few arm stretches and leg stretches and baby most often is quite content to peer at me, we complete our set-ups and then he/she is ready for family photos or to head home.

Newborn Baby Photos - Asleep or Awake 2

This sweet little guy was just the same. We got the cutest little sleepy set-ups for his newborn photo session and then got the bonus of the best wide awake looks too. I mean, “feet in the air don’t care” is in right now, right??!!
