Maternity photo sessions are best between 34-36 weeks

I get to meet so many gorgeous mamas being a maternity photographer here in Victoria, BC. Many of the moms-to-be are expecting their first little ones. It is such a fun time to capture! I suggest booking pregnancy photos when mom is between 34-36 weeks. That way she is usually still comfortably moving around and also has a gorgeous belly to photograph! If mom is carrying multiples I do suggest booking earlier just in case those little ones decide to arrive a little early.

Maternity is one of my favourite stages to capture

I am just loving maternity sessions in the last few months!! With our maternity special through the website, when our mama’s book their full newborn session with me, they receive a free mini maternity session in the studio!! It is so great to meet before this newborn session, we can plan colours for baby’s session, everyone gets to visit the studio and it is a lovely way to start getting to know each other.

The maternity stage is one of my favourite times to capture. We usually have mamas in when they are between 34-36 weeks for their pregnancy pictures. Mom is often still moving around quite comfortably and has a beautiful baby bump!

I wasn’t fortunate enough to get newborn photos done with my owns kids (newborn photography was not readily available here when my kids were born) but I did have maternity photos. Our kids love guessing which belly held their sweet baby selves and I am still in awe of how a mama can carry a baby around for 9 months-our bodies are truly incredible!

This mama’s baby has already arrived and they are coming in for their session this week so I thought I’d better share their maternity images!! She and her daughter had the most incredible hair and this family THE sweetest bond. I loved seeing how excited big sister was for her baby brother to arrive!

If you would like to book a maternity photo session, please give Amanda a call at 250-885-6860 or send her an email to amandahaddow@gmail.com

CO-ORDINATING MATERNITY & BABY PHOTOS

Connecting with mamas at the stage when their family is just starting or continuing to expand is wonderful for many reasons!! I get to meet them at such an exciting time as they are embarking on a new journey. Expectant moms come to see me when they are between 34-36 weeks. The wardrobe at the studio has been curated to allow us to co-ordinate maternity sessions, so they flow well when moms come in a few weeks later with their gorgeous baby for their newborn session. Keeping items neutral with soft colours really helps to unify a gallery and then allow parents the flexibility to display all their photos together in their homes or create a beautiful album where all the images work together to showcase the most important part of their images….them!!! Here are a few images from Chrissy’s stunning maternity session as well as her beautiful baby boy Ashton.

Book early! To reserve your date for maternity and baby pictures please call Amanda at 250-885-6860.

MATERNITY SESSION – A Westcoast Backdrop

I sometimes wondered how the changeover would go from sunset sessions in the heat of the desert to the rugged Westcoast with a reputation for rain more days of the year than not. I was pleasantly surprised when the month of August gave us more sunny days than rain. For this maternity photo session I met Meghan & Sean at the Esquimalt Lagoon. We had a lovely evening together chatting and walking along the lagoon, casually taking pictures along the way. It was a perfect pace to observe where the sun sets at this time of the year and to talk about the exciting time ahead for them both.

Recently I was reading Daniela Ingals blog post about finding the “perfect” backdrop. She is a lovely newborn and family photographer in Munich, Germany. What we both realized is that there really isn’t a “perfect” backdrop for pictures. It is so much more about the journey of the couples or family we are photographing and about their story in whatever beautiful location we’re able to find along the way. Trees and general greenery provide a perfect filter for the sun here so I’m excited to explore as I go and meet all sorts of wonderful people along the way!

The Haddows have moved!!

now doing newborn baby photography and pictures in victoria bc

Call us crazy, but a few weeks ago we made the move all the way across the world from Abu Dhabi to Victoria, BC, Canada!! I have to admit there’s a little culture shock going on for us all, it will take some getting used to but baby steps…. One of our major concerns was for me to find a studio space in Victoria. The search began a few weeks back with little success and then as fate, luck, kismet (you decide;) would have it I was introduced online through a mutual friend to another photographer here in Victoria! Long story short but she has invited me to share a really fabulous studio space on Yates & Government (you know the corner, it’s right above the Starbucks). Exciting, right?!! A little sooner than anticipated so things will get set up over the course of the summer but I have started booking  clients in from mid-August onwards. If you are interested in booking a maternity, newborn or family photography session with Amanda Haddow Photography please contact for details at 250-885-6860 or email at amandahaddow@gmail.com. Can’t wait to meet you, let this new adventure begin!

SNUGGLE | Newborn Maternity Baby Photographer

A short time ago I was approached by Dubai-based blogger Heidi. It is a blog “celebrating the UAE’s smart, stylish mums which covers everything that is fun and beautiful about mothering” here. Absolutely. Heidi’s posts are always interesting and they cover a wide range of topics which as a mum are not only informative but fun to read.

So when she contacted me, it was exciting to hear of her interest to observe a newborn baby photo session♥ She asked me to photograph her gorgeous friend’s 6 day old baby girl, Mila. My assistant Clare and I headed off from Al Ain to Dubai and after getting a little lost on the way (Dubai has a way of doing that to you;) we got settled in.

Mila was a darling!! Wide awake at first she took everything in but over the course of the morning we persuaded her to sleep to catch some precious memories for her Mum & Dad:). We used creamy natural tones with a touch of pink which was lovely with her skin tone.

Enjoy Mila’s session share here, and then pop over to Heidi’s blog to read her write-up (sorry link no longer exists). Thanks for stopping by and do not hesitate to contact me for newborn pictures and baby photography information!!

Please note that as of Jun 2016 I have moved my newborn baby pictures and Maternity photography studio to Victoria BC in Canada.

Thinking about booking your newborn baby photography session in Victoria BC? It’s never too early! Newborn baby picture sessions take place within 5-12 days after baby’s birth and my calendar fills up quickly. It is suggested that you book your newborn photographer at the beginning of your second trimester to guarantee room on their calendar around your baby’s estimated due date.  I can’t wait to take your precious baby’s photos!
